Katarina Wit first started skating at age five. Her success allowed her to show her talent and gain entry into a Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted children. She was introduced to Jutta Muller here. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. In the years since, Witt's grace and beauty have captivated the interest of all. Olympic victory Katarina (now Witt) won the Women's Figure Skating Gold Medal at the Sarajevo Winter Games. In a tighter competition four years later, Witt was awarded the gold medal. The free skater lost, but she won the gold medal for the mandatory figures and her short programme. Witt is the only female figure skater who has won the same competition twice, after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt, who made it big in the world of film and television as an actor, returned to figure skating in 1994 to compete at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. People were captivated by her, despite her having placed seventh. It was in 1995 that Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
